St. Catherine of Siena School was opened on September 5, 1961 by the Dominican sisters at the request of parishioners of the newly formed St. Catherine Parish by Pastor Fr. Frank Schanzer. The school’s first principal was Sister Lucia Schexnayder, O.P., serving grades Kindergarten through 6th grade; 7th and 8th grades were added in the fall of 1967. St. Catherine school facility has changed and adapted throughout the years to meet the needs of its students. Among the major accomplishments were the addition of a science lab and computer and art classes in 1973, the building of the school gym in 1979, and implementation of the Accelerated Reader program in 1992. St. Catherine School was awarded a $60,000 grant from the Beaumont Foundation in 2004 which upgraded our computer lab with 30 lap top computers. The most recent addition has been a PreKindergarten (3) class started in 2006.
Since 2012, St. Catherine of Siena School has seen additions to the physical facility that have enhanced the overall school image and meet the growing needs of our students. First a new electronic school marquee was constructed to increase the visibility and provide more effective means of communication with our parents and community. Also, a new early elementary playground was installed to provide for the fitness and recreational needs of our early childhood students. Finally, most classrooms have been equipped with Elmos, interactive whiteboards, and ceiling mounted projectors to enable teachers to provide students with more engaged learning experiences.
