Hello and welcome to Pre-Kindergarten 4! My name is Mary Simon and this is my first full year at St. Catherine School. I previously taught 40 years in public school. I am very excited that we will be utilizing the SuperKids curriculum, Happily Ever After which is specific for Pre-Kindergarten. The SuperKids program emphasizes Vocabulary and Concepts, Shapes, Colors, Auditory Discrimination and Phonological Awareness, Letter Recognition, Visual Development, Fine Motor Skills, Comprehension and Emergent Writing. The children will also have Handwriting, Math, Religion daily along with Science, Social Studies, Art, Music, Spanish during the week.
The overall objective of the Pre-Kindergarten program is to provide a developmentally appropriate curriculum and increase the probability that the students will have a successful and positive experience upon entering school.
Program Objectives:
1. The identification and remediation of educational disadvantages that could interfere with school adjustment and success.
2. To help each child develop a positive self-concept through greater awareness of his/her role as a creation of God within the social surroundings.
3. Promoting language communication among and between children and adults.
Instructional Process:
To address the cognitive, physical, social and language development needs of students. Students through a child-centered environment will learn:
1. The use of self discipline
2. To talk and listen effectively
3. To solve problems and make decisions
4. To accept some responsibility for their behavior
5. To share and work together with their classmates
6. To recognize that they are important as individuals and understand God's great love for everyone.
The Pre-Kindergarten curriculum will provide instructional direction. The daily schedule will be comprised of a blend of individual, small and large group activities. The students will be provided with opportunities to develop social skills, cooperation, helping, sharing and negotiation. All of these skills will aid the students in developing interpersonal problem solving behavior. Students will also be provided opportunities to see how reading and writing are useful through study and identifying letter names and sounds.
Welcome to St. Catherine School, I look forward to a fun and rewarding year!
